Show THREE MEN STUBBED AFTER I WOMAN IS INSULTED Roy Wiggins, 2250 Lincoln avenue; Whoatley Gibson, Canyon Road, and J. E. Candland, 650 Seventeenth street were severely stabbed Saturday night. Elmer Wright of 325 Thirty-fifth street, who is now in the city jail, facing a serious charge, used a knife on them Messrs. Wiggins and Gibson and Mrs. Wiggins were standing on Washington Wash-ington avenue, near Twenty-third street, about 9 30 0 clock, when Wright walked up to Mrs. Wiggins. Jingled some money In his pocket and attempted to get familiar. Mr. Wiggins told him to move on about his business and Wright replied with un Insult Wiggins promptly knocked bim to the sidewalk. When he arose, Wright had an opened knife in his hand and without warning made a full arm swing at Wiggins with it. The blade reached home, striking Wiggins in the fleshy part of the left forearm Immediately Immediate-ly after making the assault. Wright turned and ran down the avenue toward to-ward Twenty-fifth street, with Gibson Gib-son in pursuit. Gibson caught hold of the fleeing man near the corner of Twenty-fourth Twenty-fourth street, and, as he did so, Wright again swung with the knife, stabbing him under tho right breast. The blade entered between two ribs and cut a gash about three Inches long and an Inch deep. The shock of the injury, caused Gibson to loosen his hold and Wright continued on his run southward. A number of pedestrians, pedestri-ans, however, who had seen the chase, but had not realized its meaning mean-ing until Gibson was stabbed, immediately imme-diately started after the man Others took up the chase as it progressed and, when he neared the Pingree bank, Wright started to the east side of the street He was caught by Mr. Candland. but before he could prevent it, Candland Cand-land was struck with the knife at tho top of the right thigh, the blade cutting cut-ting a long hole in his trousers Wright was In the act of making another an-other lung at Candland, when the lat-ler lat-ler seized the hand that held the knife. At this, it is said. Wright jerk ed the blade of the weapon through ('andland's clenched fingers, cutting thr-m severely. Before he could escape, es-cape, he was caught and held by Fred Bradley and Thomas Gray, who, with Mr Candland, took him to tho police po-lice station. Messrs. Wiggins and Gibson were taken to the office of Drs. Pldcock and Crawshaw and given medical attention, at-tention, while Mr. Candland's Injured hand was given attention at the police po-lice station It is not expected that their injuries will prove serious. At the station. Wright said he had lived in Ogden for the past two years. He is 40 years of age and is supposed sup-posed to have been under the influence influ-ence of liquor He Is not related to the Wright family of Ogden. oo |
