Show ou MOTHER AND CHILD PAINFULLY BURNED Salt Lake. Nov 26 While his father fa-ther was in pursuit Sunday of Ralph Lopez, the Mexican fugitive, Bennle, the i!-year-old son of Deputy Sheriff John B. Taylor, chauffeur for Sheriff Andrew Smith Jr, was saved from being burned to death only through the heroic work of his mother, who herself was painfully burned about the hands and arras In saving her baby. Word of the accident nt his homf reached Mr Taylor early Monday morning. It being carried to him by a mrmber of the posse which left Salt Lake at 11 o'clock Sunday night. Mi-Taylor Mi-Taylor drove to Lehi in an auto and took the train for Salt Lake, arriving arriv-ing home Monday morning about 10 o'clock. The accident at the deputy's home occurred Sunday mornnlg The boy was playing about the kitchen while his mother was attending to household house-hold duties. The stove door was open and the child's apron Wat drawn into the blaze by the draft In a moment mo-ment the little fellow was a mass oi llamee. The child s screams drew his mother's moth-er's attention and she rushed to him. She seized the burning clothes in her bare hands and tore them from his body In doing 60 she had her ! hands and arms burned severely, but ncceeded in getting tha clothes from the hoy s body, but not before his face, head and chest were badly-burned. badly-burned. Neighbors went to the assistance of the boy and his mother and a doc tor was called. He pronounced the baby's Injuries as serious The mothers moth-ers hurus are extremely painful, but not of so fterious a nature. The county Jail was notified of the accident shortly- after it happened and an effort WU made to get into communication with Sheriff Smith or Mr. Taylor, but It was found Impossible Impos-sible to get word to either of them Sunday night when the special detail de-tail of deputies was sent out from tho county Jail to Join the other posses at Jones' ranch one of the deputies was told to find Taylor and notify him of tha accident. |
