Maxim caff-was caff-was the scene of confusion for a few minutes early last evening, when some unknown man fired three times with h Revolver loaded with blanks. Police Po-lice were nt once notified and In five minutes every exit from the place was guarded while Inspector Carlson and others of the force went Inside to ascertain the cause of the excitement. Rut tho cause of the trouble was gone He did his shooting from within about ten feet of the door and then walked out without Interruption Just as though he had done nothing unusual. The police and some of the guests of the cafe were Inclined to think the shooting was a hoax. Chief among those who took notice of the noisy intrudor, were S Rothen-1 Rothen-1 berg, Harry Relchman and Harvey 1 1 I Mackley. entertainers in the cafe, who wore directly In front of tho raun, and seemod to be used by him as targets. Mr, Roichman, who Is an entertainer at the cafe, gave the following fol-lowing account of the affair "The follow came up to where we were and asked If we were entertain trn I answered In the afriimatlve and good naturedly Introduced the others to him, although I never had seen him before and don't know who ho Is. He said ho was nn entertainer entertain-er from Ogden named Pardue. ' He seemed to have been drinking, or at least a little off color from some rea-Fon, rea-Fon, and we "kidded" with him "Then he left u and paid ills bill, for he had been at another tabic before be-fore ho came to where we were. After Af-ter paying his bill tho man relumed to ub and asked for a cigarette. We paid no attention to him, thinking that he would move on. But he asked the same question again and then said " 'Don't get fresh with mo. for if you start nnything I will be (he ouly one left around here.' ' We still disregarded htm and he stepped back about one step and seemed to shoot straight at me The gun he had looked like a young cau non and I could feel the wind from tho discharge go past my face. Ho fired threp shots in all and then went out the door, and I found, upon examination, ex-amination, that I was still alive" Nobody in the cafe seemed to know the man, and an accurate description of him was not furnished to the police po-lice oo |
