Show oo CUSTOMS REVENUE REDUCTION REPORT Washington, April 3. The Under-wood-SImms tariff act went into effect ef-fect six months ago today and present pres-ent Indications are that It will not reduce re-duce customs revenue any more than was estimated in congress at th time of passage. According to the treasury's March statement, customs revenues amounted amount-ed to about $26,000,000, which s about $1,500,000 less than the Payne-Aldrlch Payne-Aldrlch law produced in March, 1913. That was a marked increase over February, when revenues fell over 10,000,00 compared to the same month of 1913. The average monthly decrease in customs revenue for the six months the new tariff has been In operation Is placed at about $4,000,000, but officials of-ficials were confident today that would be reduced In the coming six months. The annual reduction was estimated estimat-ed at about $45,000,000 a year. oo |
