Albany. N. Y., Aug. 11 The brief statement given out by Governor Sul-zer Sul-zer last night after a protracted conference. con-ference. In which he denies In having speculated in Wall Street but admits to having made temporary ' personal of some of the campaign eou'ribu-tions, eou'ribu-tions, has stimulated curiosity as to what attitude the governor will take toward the threatened impeachment proceedings which are expected as a result of the Frawley legislative committee's preliminary report to the legislature tonight. In view ofthe governor's firm contention con-tention that the present legislature has teased to exist, the opinion Is expressed by some of his supporters; that an effort wll be made to block the program of his opponents through some legal process, notwithstanding notwith-standing the contrary opinion rendered ren-dered by Attorney General Caimody. It is pointed out that If the governors gover-nors attorneys devise any means of procuring cognizance ot this matter by any judicial tribunal, whatever) the linding of such tribunal might be, the outcome would be to carry the, case to the court of appeals, and as the judges of this court are also made by the constitutional an essen- . lial part of the court of impeachment, it would he Impracticable for them to act In this capacity until the Ju- j dicial proceedings were finally set- tied. Even if the final adjudication Should, be adverse to iht governor. It would greatly delay an impeachment trial and unless specially expedlated. the Issue might not be determined before a ne wassembly qualified. |
