Show OGDEN CITY SCHOOL FAIR PROVES TO BE A SUCCESS All work done in Ogden s schools I from art 10 poultry raising and gar denlng is exemplified by means of a collection of exhibits ttat make up the Ogden City school fair which is at trading much attention at the High school today and which may be seen by all who arc Interested The large domestic arts department has been converted into a fair building and the placp is filled with interesting things. One exhibit that is holding atten tlon Is that of the Ogden High school bacteriology department George W Bailey, the instructor in that science, has prepared one exhibit that tells eilently yet Hoquenth why the city water should be boiled Likewiee those scientifically Interested may see under the high powr microscope the germs of tuberculosis and diphtheria The work done h the manual arts j department Is al6o attracting atten tlon. Tables, chairs. deknd cabi- 1 nets, all made by students, are on dis j play and it takes much explanation from the instructor to convince some 1 visitors that boys did the work. In one corner is an exhibit or the best products raised In the school gar I dens. Near that exhibit is a series of coops wherein are chickens, ducks, j pigeons and rabbits, all from the penu of the students interested In Industrial Industri-al work Mrs. Lillian Farnsworth of tho En? lish department of the high school has a neat exhibit of written work and art by students in her classes Interest i3 added to her showing by a eollec tion of antiquities which Include colonial co-lonial silverware, tapestry, a newspa per published In 1800 and other relics of early American hislorj Much praiBe has been given to Miss Carrie Knapp for the excellent art showing. Miss Knapp Is superisor of art In the citv schools and the mi merous examples of art in the collection collec-tion forms an eloquent tribute to her success In her work The ladies and many of the men from outside are greatly interested in the exhibit by the domestic science classes Upon a large table were jars of preserved fruits and vegetables that surpass in appearance the products of even the best and largest preserving establishments The products are all of the pure food variety too. no coloring or injurious preservatives having been used W E. Archibald of the high school history department has on exhibition a number of maps drawn by students in his classes without models Such work is required of history students and they must do it in tne regulation examination period It was difficult for many to believe that the maps of the United States showing every state in Its correct position were made without a map before the maker So successful Is the fair that proml nent local educators have decided 10 make it an annual event |
