Show oo SHERIFF SAYS CITY IS BEING PATROLLED Sheriff Thomas A DoVine stated1 this morning that if the agitation Inditing people to carry arms and thoot promiscuously, is continued he will not send bis deputies out to aid in patrolling the city. He considers it dangerous for officers in plain clothes or. oven in uniform, if the people are going to shoot at l he-least he-least alarm. "I have had some of the deputies patrolling the streets , on the bench of late at night and 1 shall be glad to continue to do so, but surely it is a serious matter to send men out on dutv when there Is so much excitement excite-ment that many keep guns at their command and use them hastily. An oificer may be shot at any time. There is no occasion for alarm and ihe people. 1 think, may rest assured that the police department, assisted I i' the City by the force in the sher-Iff'B sher-Iff'B office, will protect the people in everv respect. It Is next to criminal crim-inal to 'incite mob violence." oo |
