Show 1 .MA-Tvp EDITORIAL MOTHER'S DAY Sunday last was Mother's Day, once a year Americans pay homage to their mothers. It seems a man does not half appreciate his mother until he reaches middle life. As a child he takes her for granted, she watches over him, guides his feet, cares for him, tucks him into bed, does everything every-thing she can possibly do to make him feel that Mother is always on the lookout for his every welfare. But when he arrives at the middle period of life and has learned sadness sad-ness and discouragement he has an entirely different view of Mother love. He knows how patient she has been, how she has met discouragement discourage-ment uncomplainingly, how many times she has accepted physical and mental pain without letting anybody know, fearing they will worry. Any man will begin to realize how much she has given of life to smooth out his path and urging him on to bigger and better things, altho he might be one of the blackest of the family, how Mother would try to cover cov-er up all the weak spots he had. She may never reveal the aches within her heart, they are too sacred for words that might fall on doubtful ears. So in lieu of rightful caresses she cherishes memories, and hopes forever for-ever longing for the day to come when her boy will make his mark in the world, and reward her yearning heart. We can never show a weakness weak-ness by being gentle to Mother. If anything, the opposite is true. Cowards are afraid to let their affection af-fection be known. ' Men of courage and noble worth count it an honor to acknowledge and pay tribute to their Mother. There's no gain in putting off. We all owe tremendous debts to our Mothers. Let's pay as far as we can while they are alive. We are all conscious of obligation. Payment, if only in part, helps a fellow to feel he is meeting his debts. Deeds of m kindness done for the love of doing carry a fellow far into the realm of nobility. There can be no more noble J appeal than the love of mother. We 11 love her for what she is and for what 1 she has been to us and when the idea of observing Mother's Day was sug-i sug-i gested and brought into action there "j was need of it Mother's Day is a - challenge to each and every one of J us. And altho there are times when business matters prevent us from tak-I tak-I ing the interest we should in mother j there are times when we fell asham- ed of our actions by not taking more j thought of her than we have done. |
