| Show railroading IN AND OUT OF from mondays standard the new los angeles LIml tel which left chicago last night reached omaha this morning over the chicago northwestern leaving fifteen minutes later over tha union for the west the train goes via union pacific and san pedro arriving la los angeles wednesday night tha iraln has good passenger list and has aboard forty newspaper men the initial train is considered of unusual importance in railroad circles A large party of prominent traffic men from tho railroads interested are among those making the first trip geo L alley general baggage agent of the oregon short line with headquarters in salt lake spent sunday in ogden on business connected with his department E A burton the cashier at the pacific hotel in this city leaves this afternoon for salt lake where he will visit for a few days before making a trip to the pacific cobat ho has been granted leave of absence for thirty days and during that time his place la to be filled by C beeso who has been employed as night clerk tor gome months the night clerkship Is being filled by frank hoffman late of tho bell telephone company men and teams continue excavating for the extension of the southern pacific shops in athla city the hardest work appears to be the removing of the frozen earth from the surface it is thought that this portion oatha work will be completed by evening at which time work of excavating will be commenced in real earnest A portion of the transfer shed has been obtained and boarded up for the purpose of storing the cement which is to be used and it will be taken care of in this temporary building until such time as e shed can be erected for the purpose of caring tor the material and supplies the extension will be equipped with two cranes one eltty ton and one seven and a half ton which will give the shop cranes that can be used for heavy or light work the scene Is visited dally by many persons who are interested in the building the dirt that Is being taken from the ex cavalon is being hauled by teams to the yards where it Is being faed to fill in the great hollow places |
