three occasions when ho called tit tho clerks office with hides and hence that he committed perjury in these instances jones was ached concerning some of his testimony at tho preliminary hearing and absolutely denied that he adae the answers read to him from a transi script of the testimony concerning some 0 tha question asked in regard to a number of tho ques Unos and answers he sahl that he could not remember whether they were correctly reported or not during the session yesterday after noon jones asked for the protection of an attorney on account of tho rigid choss of Atlo iney gustan aso when court opened this morning judge howell informed the that the court would take care of him to this jones replied in an undertone which was evidently not caught by the judge 1 I dont will attorney gustin questioned the witness closely about his testimony at the preliminary hearing and succeeded in getting jones to deny part of it and as to other parts his memory failed him and he not state whether ho so testified or not he admitted that he swore to a bounty certificate mada out by deputy clerk buckwater Buck waUer on made out by deputy clerk smith and also one made out by davies although he took the oath to alio effect that he killed the animals in thia state he sald that he did not know them at all As to one 0 the certificates which had been raised in amount he said bo did not swear to it but on the hearing he testified that ho did not swear to it he could not remember exactly what was said to him when he took the oath but it was something about killing the animals the hides of which he presented for bounty during the cross examination yesterday afternoon be said that be bad been engaged in the bounty business before he met davies he could only remember yesterday of
