that J A pender jr the son of city detective J A pender has been terribly injured at missoula soula montana and it Is feared his injuries will prove fatal this morning mrs pender left for the bedside of her son and mr pender departs for the north this evening the young man dejl with his misfortune in an heroic attempt to save sa ve several people from being dashed over a precipice mr pender had been out in the mountains with J B adams of soula and they were returning on monday when the accident that may cost him his life occurred at the bottom of a very precipitous mountain road mr pender and his friend dismounted to rest their horses suddenly they heard a scream which was followed almost immediately by the appearance around a bend in the road of a team dashing madly down the mountain side in the team were a man and woman at the bottom of the road was a sharp turn and a precipice which dropped twenty foot down the hillside with utter disregard to the consequences quen ces young pender sprang to bis horse and dashed out into the middle of the road where by almost superhuman effort he succeeded in bringing the mad team to a standstill saving the lives of the man and woman in tha wagon but the effort was too much and in the rush of the maddened team fenders horse tell throwing the rider over the precipice to the rocks below that he was not instantly killed is a wonder adams and the man and woman hastened to his side and found him broken and terribly cut both arms and one leg were broken while across the top of the head was a dee gash the injured man was placed in the wagon and hurried to missoula chero the physicians found it necessary to amputate the injured leg Yest erady detective bendey received a telegram notifying him of the accident this morning he received another telegram saying that his son had been taken to butte that he was still unconscious and in a serious condition FUNERAL OF RUBY WILLIAMS the funeral over the remains of the late ruby J williams were held yesterday at 1030 a m at the church of me good shepherd rev brown conducted the services and made an eloquent and consoling address on the early taking away of the deceased there aas a large attendance at the church including the schoolmates of the deceased the floral tributes were many and beautiful interment was in ogden city cemetery conference OF MEDICOS surgeons see man
