Show AND WATER OWNERS ARE UP IN ARMS weber and dails county farmers to take vigorous action to Sa crops from thursdays standard at a meeting ot representatives of the largent irrigation companies in weber county hold this morning in the court house to consider taking action with the view of getting more water down the weber river a committee was appointed to confer with a like committee from morgan and dails counties and the following resolution adopted be it resolved that it is the sensa of this meeting that the county commissioners ners need more help appointed to regulate the waters of the weber river so that weber and davis counties shall secure mo it Is urgently requested that all canals ba turned into the weber river tor a period of ten days in event of failure to turn water into the river we will enjoin all junior canals from securing water the cause for these resolutions la obvious the volume of water available in this and dails counties Is less than has ever been known in the history of the two counties and unless the canal owners without prior rights operate cooperate co there is danger that before the irrigation season ends the weber canals will run dry it is to forestall such a catastrophe that the meeting was called the appointed consists of george F hunter henry green william stoker and A C christenson BOY A CANE assailant Is fined five dollars and costs there were two assault and battery cases in the police court this morning the one against dave west who is accused of beating delia hayes being continued until tomorrow while the case of harry who hit a small boy with a cane was tried jim cole the boy who was hit stated to the court that the defendant had used vile language la referring to a young girl and that he had resented the statement atthe time he and the defendant hada scrap and on the next day they again met and the defendant struck him with a cane several of young col es companions corroborated ro his statement jn his defense admitted having struck th eloy but stated that there was creati provocation as the boy threatened to hit him with a rock judge murphy deemed the defendant guilty and assessed a fine of 5 and costs three violators of the bicycle ordinance were in p court two were fined a dollar each and the other was turned over to the juvenile court gang lee a chinaman left his horse untied andaas arrested by the probation officer about all that could be gotten out of the chinaman was that his horse was a good dorsee when the judge assessed the usual 5 ging came to and used the foreign devils language to advantage but he dug up the five dollars just the bame two drunks pleaded guilty and were assessed the usual amount one pleaded not guilty and his case was continued until this afternoon JUDGE JEPT BUSY looked upon as the logical successor of judge dee judge H H Is being prominently spoken of as the successor of judge thomas D dee on the state board of equalization many of the most prominent men of ogden aro advocating vo his appointment the subject was broached tuesday but judge absolutely declined to even entertain the idea saying it was soon enough to take up the matter when the last respects had been bald to the deceased it Is said that governor cutler has already decided to name and the appointment will be made it the ogden man signifies his willingness to take up the duties and responsibilities ties of the the general understanding among those interested in the large enter which judge dee so ably guided Is that judge willbe his successor in the industrial affairs of this section there is no one so thoroughly familiar with all the responsibilities and confidential trusts connected with those interests as is mr and already the knowledge possessed by that gentleman has been put to good purpose in temporarily directing affairs until a successor is selected RUSSELL BURIED hla sudden death Is not fully ex r pla ined the funeral services over the re kalns of russell clayton were held at the fifth ward meeting house this afternoon at 2 p m the funeral cortege left the residence of thomas stevenson at upon its arrival at the meeting house the body was borne lansde by six intimate friends of the deceased bishop john watson conducted the services which opened with a selection by the fifth ward choir the speakers were G H islaub john watson and john musical selections were rendered by miss may brown and by mrs ballan tyne miss hancock and mrs jones in a trio the choir sang a hymn and after the benediction the remains were taken to the city cemetery and interred in th e family lot peculiar circumstances surround the death of the young man he was reported 0 o have died of heart trouble but it is the belief of bis family that he met with foul play as he has always enjoyed perfect health his bister mrs glen morion came from her home in california to attend the funeral |
