Show BAMBERGER ROAD work on the salt lake ogden railway or as more commonly known the bamberger road has advanced so rapidly that in a short time the road from lagoon to ogden will be completed up to the point to which the surveys have been made a few miles out of ogden owing to the fact that it has not been decided at just what point the road will enter the city the franchise permitting the road to use any street south ot that important matter will have to be decided before further work can be done at present the engineers in charge are carefully going over the ground and deciding velch of the three routed being considered is most desirable mr bamberger promises that work will be started on the canyon route at the same time that the work is started on the road to salt lake the route to the canyon has not as yet been decided upon and until the surveys are completed nothing can be done in the line of construction chief engineer velle with a force of engineers la at work surveying the third of the proposed routes to the canyon and expects to be able to make his report by the latter part of this week upon his recommendation the route will be decided upon and bids for the vork will be immediately asked for work from the contractors who are considering the matter so far as is possible mr bamberger Is desirous that local contractors contract orrs shall secure the work and m invite all to bid matchell CASE hency makes reply to arguments of 1 defense portland July 10 counsel for united states senator mitchell in an argument before judge de haven in the federal court on a motion for a new trial in the Senator mitchell case today laid great stress on the tact that the government did not prove the sixth count of the indictment wherein it is alleged that on january 4 1904 senator matchel received a sum of money from kalbs it was argued that inasmuch as the jury was instructed that it could bring a verdict on any one or all ot the counts and was not instructed to except the unproved count the whole verdict h defective and should bo set aside and a new trial allowed district attorney heney replied that the government did not from the beginning of the trial expect fo prove this count and had informed the jury to that effect and further that tho jury had been given to understand several times that the government was not attempting to make a case on this particular count by reason of this argued aar acney the jury understood der stood perfectly the situation was not influenced on this point and benco the rights of the defendant had not been injured AMATEUR PRESS association kansas city mo july 10 tho united Amateur Press association of america today elected officers including derector edwin land san fran |
