communication was received from mayor glasmann referring back to that body the revised city ordinance relating to the increasing of salaries 0 city officers anslen un slen ta kether faith the that he did not think that certain of the city officials salaries should oe increased at this time and thus burden the taxpayers councilman chambers randau davidzon David Bon balne emmett boyes arid were present on motion 0 Em juett councilman chambers wae elected chairman ot the ff tn the absence of j dent carr the city recorder reported a communication muni cation from the mayor returning unsigned the revised ordinance las to the increasing of the salaries of the city officers which was read to the president and members of the city council gentlemen I 1 return herewith the ordinance the salaries and compensations of the cit c officers without my approval 1 I believe the city council raise from 20 to 26 par month is just also the balce of the chief of police and the fire chief to per month but I 1 do not think the taxpayers can afford to stand any immediate increase inthe in the salary of all tho officers I 1 note several officers who received only 65 per month when I 1 was first installed as mayor and their salaries have been from time to time under the present administration until they now receive 90 per month and yet it s proposed to make their compensations to per month I 1 cannot see why an increase should be made at this time when the salaries the city is paying cause first class men to seek the offices the mayor and city council should taace into consideration the taxpayers of the city I 1 do not believe that they are prepared pie pared to pay out several thousand dollars additional each year jor salaries when the present officers have done the work of the same offices at present salaries in a very efficient manner the tax rate is over 20 mills and ake officers should make an effort to reduce rather than increase taxes very respectfully submitted signed
