Show PLAGUE DEAD BODIES BURNED IN HONOLULU washington jan 4 surgeon general sternberg baa received tho following report from major taylor the surgeon in chargo at the military hospital in honolulu dated dec 15 1 I have the honor to report on the eleventh and twelfth of this month there were five deaths from the bubonic plague in the chinese quarters ot honolulu and another occurred this morning the whole regiment ot ha walin national guards isolated the infected districts and the board 0 health Is making a house to bouse inspection and all the corpses bavo been cremated and I 1 think there will be but little danger of the spread of the infection among the troops there Is little doubt about the diagnosis la most of the cases enclosed in the report is an order issued by aleut ketcham in charge of the headquarter a at camp mckenley directed to the troops it forbids all soldiers and employed emp loyes in the service of the command to enter the city of honolulu or the infected districts ex capton duty or by special written per mission of the officers in command the pass list is suspended and alie men are restricted to the limits of kap iolani park surgeon general is not alarmed at the conditions in honolulu as set out in the report and believes that the measures adopted at camp mckinley are adequate ho will not recommend that the army transports be prevented from touching at honolulu |
