Seattle, Wash., Aug 14 It is estimated esti-mated that the annual orchard products pro-ducts of the Pacific northwest states will soon be more valuable than the grain products. The whole northwest is orchard and fruit mad. So great has been the demand for fruit trees the past year that nurseries nurse-ries exhausted their stock before half the orders were filled Nurseries from distant states were patronized from necessity. There is scarcely a section in tho five northwest states that has not planted large 'areas to fruit trees .the past year Each section sec-tion is specializing in the particular kind of fruit that it can best grow, whether It be pears, grapes, apples or peaches. Some districts have found they could sell ten times the amount the producej and they could make money mon-ey at one-half the prevailing prices. As a consequence fortunes have been made In fruit culture, and the price of fruit land has multiplied marvel-ouslj. marvel-ouslj. The crop of fruit for the year 1912 will amount to 35,000 cars from the five states of Montana, Idaho. Utah, Oregon and Washington. This great tonnage is sought by the big railroads and handled with great care, so that patronage can be depended upon another an-other year The value of the 1912 fruit for the:& states is estimates at $35,000,000. |
