Show TAPPING THE UTAH LIGHT CONDUIT To furnish futthcr protection to Ogden in times of fire, and other emergencies when water may be scarce, tho city board of commisaron-era commisaron-era decided today to accept the offer of tho Utah Light & Railway company com-pany by which the city Ik allowed to tap the big water pipe of the companv Juat above the Hermitage In Ogden canyon and connect It with tho city wutor mains. This arrangement made, says the mayor, and tho city will virtually h.,, a double water system n times of flro from Washington aenue to the power dam in tho canyon. Tho mayor o ' deemed it expedient to raako a contract con-tract -with the big company for the protection of the city. So far as the articles ol agreement are concerned, no provision is made for compensation to the Utah Light & Railway company The c'ty, however, will have to pay all expenses in the tapping of the large pipe and In making mak-ing the connections. The water, of course, cannot bo taken from the conduit con-duit except in extreme cases of fire or other calamity to the city, in which water is neoded It seems that the big corporation has been givon a soul, for the act on its part is purely nhilanthronic. |
