Show GARFIELD TO JOIIUTRIKE Smelter Men Will Quit Work If Strikebreakers Strikebreak-ers Are Used Salt Lake City, Oct. 7. A meeting of the mill and smoker men of Garfield, Gar-field, Utah, wah held here last night at which a resolution was adopted favoring fa-voring a strike should the Utah Copper Cop-per company attempt to operate itn mines at Bingham, Utah, with non-nion non-nion men. So far none of the employes em-ployes of the Utah Copper company's emelters at Garfield have left their work, although the Arthur and Magna Mag-na concentrating plants were forced to clo8o on account of not having any ore to handle. D. C. .Tackling, seneral manager of the Utah Copper company, said tonight to-night that the company had no intention inten-tion of importing strike-breakers to Bingham. Tho situation at Bingham Is unchanged. Hundreds of miners are leaving tho camp daily and sev-oral sev-oral business houses will be compell-el compell-el to close their doors unless tho strike Is settled within a few dayB. Ely, Nov.. Sevoral conferences havo been held since President Moyer of lho miners' federation, announced that tho questions at issue would bo left for settlement at a conference be-t7?een be-t7?een the mlno ovmcrs and the miners' min-ers' union. Two of the miners engaged in a shooting affair at the mines yesterday but the quarrel was said to be over an alleged dobt of ?1.25 and not over the labor question. |
