Tho Progressive party of Webor county Saturday placed a commendable commend-able ticket In the field and it was accomplished In a way that all who participated in tho mnss convention wero satisfied with tho results. Tho keynoto of tho convention and tho spirit whioh actuated thoeo who participated, was "a square deal" to all and the nomination of tho best available men and women for tho offices. of-fices. It was the first convention of the year In this county to place a woman on the tickot and It was a fitting climax to tho good work of the ticket-builders. There wero something more than a hundred In tho convention at tho openln' and in tho afternoon when Ncphl L. Morris candidate for governor, gov-ernor, was announced as a speaker, the court room "was filled and many took seats back of the railing surrounding sur-rounding the bar It was an enthusiastic enthu-siastic convention and cheer after cheer greeted the telling points that woro made. Morris' speech was punctuated b round after round of applause and Fome of tbo stand -patters whn "stood" circling the body of enthusiastic enthu-siastic reformers were uneasy on their feet some of them shifting to positions whero they could not hear so well. A few visiting Democrats wore somowhat pleased, yet,, Mr. Morris gvo them too some pretty hard raps In the nomination for the four-year term commissioner the names of John Hall and L. M. Nolson were prosentod, Mr. Nelson vlnnlug on the first ballot. Before the closo of the convontion. a resolution was passed, authorizing the central committee to fill vacancy vacan-cy that may occur and the Bull Moose was declared to be tho party emblem. Inasmuch as the Progressive party is a new ono In Utah and It can be placed before the people for their suffrage only by petition of at least 100 persons, petitions will be prepared. pre-pared. Undor the law threo petitions will be signed, each containing 100 signatures, one petition for the candidate can-didate for state senator, ono for the candidates for stato representatives and tho third one for tho candidates for county offices. Tho petitions are being prepared at ProgresHlvo headquarters head-quarters and will he filed with the county clerk before October 19. This evening the candidates and the central committee will meet at headquarters head-quarters and take up the question of further organization |
