Mcdlll Mc-Cormlck Mc-Cormlck of; .Chicago stirred up a sensation sen-sation before the Clapp committee today to-day when as the first witness at tho day's session ho read a prepared statement touching upon the attempted attempt-ed assassination of Colonel Roosevelt, declaring It had been incited by "falsehood of character assassins and liars like Charles D. Hllles." "It is difficult for an ordinary man In tho compass of ordinary language to competo with the testimony of character assassins and HarB like Mr. Hlllos men who because of their falsehoods luclto weak minded men to actual assassinations," was the passage which brought out a storm of protest from the committee In which Chairman Clapp Joined. Mr. McCor-mlck McCor-mlck argued heatedlv that his statement state-ment was admlmsslblc as evidence while Senators Oliver aud Clapp declined de-clined to allow Mr McCorralck to proceed and demanded that ho retract re-tract his words. The statement was finally admitted to the record without being road from the prepared copy.
