Show PREPARING' TO FIGHT FIRES District Forestor E A ShermaJi and Assistant District Forester A. C. McCain, the later having in charge thc operation department of the district dis-trict service, are attending a meeting meet-ing at Boise, Idaho, today with the state land board of the Gein state and officers of the Payette Lumber company. com-pany. They will return home immediately imme-diately after the meeting. It is said by the foresters that the state land board and the lumber company com-pany in question have control of large land holdings within the forest for-est reseves on the Boise and Payotto rivers within the fire zone of thenor-thern thenor-thern section of country and that, hertofore, they have depended largely large-ly on the national forest service to protect the forests embracing their lands against fire. This year they propose to co-operate with the forest fire-fighting froces in the protection of the timber. The meeting is being held at the suggestion of the state land hoard and the ofifcers of the lumber company com-pany for the purpose of having an understanding regarding 'the manner in which the work of protecting thc forests shall be done and also to offer of-fer assurance that they will be on hand to do their part in both preparing prepar-ing for the fighting of fires and ac-tuallj ac-tuallj fighting on thc fire line. Spme of the most disastrous fires last year were along the Payette and Boise forest districts. |
