President Presi-dent Taft's official welcome of the visiting German warships here today began a round of festivities and official offi-cial functions that will end only when the squadron weighs anchor for home. The Kaiser's three big fighting machines ma-chines that have come to the United States to return the American fleet's visit to Kiel last year, came up to Hampton Roads from Lynnhaven bay early this morning, escorted by the ships of Admiral Winslow's third division di-vision of the Atlantic fleet. Both squadrons thundered a. twenty-one gun salute as the Mayflower steamed Into the loads with President Taft and the Gorman ambassador, Count Von Bern6torff, aboard. Things have been in a great bustle aboard both squadrons for tho last three days, making ready for their reception.
