Show OO PACKAGES AT CHRISTMAS TIME Because the system adopted last season of delivering Christmas packages pack-ages at the postoffice gave such satisfaction, satis-faction, tle same arrangement will be the order this year. The system as planned by Assistant Postmaster Ru-fus Ru-fus Garner consists of a double checking by which no mistakes are made in delivering tne packages. Only the smaller parcels will be sent out by the carriers, the larger ones being given out at the office. When a package comes in It will be given a number and the same number will be stamped on a card to be sent to the person to whom the package Is addressed, notifying him that there is a parcel at the office. When the card is brought to the office of-fice the clerk goes to the bin holding the matter addressed to persons with the same initial lotter and selects the packago bearing the number on the postal card, at the same time checking tho names. Mr. Garner declares that this system sys-tem has given better satisfaction than any other that has been used during the Christmas season because It elim inates the mistakes that often occur and in addition enables the clerks to wait upon a greater number of peo- pic It is so simple that even tho inexperienced in-experienced arc able to work at It without previous training. Although the approach of the Christmas season has increased the amount of mall matter to a great extent, ex-tent, additional clerks will not be put on until December 15 or 20, when the rush becomes great These clerks will be kept until after January 1, when the business usually becomes normal again. nr |
