Show SPANIARD TRIES 10 SELLJEWELRY While attempting to dispose of jewelry which he Is thought to havo stolen from the residence of Benjamin Benja-min Mortensen, 219 Twenty-seventh street, on the night of February 12, Joseph Alvls, a Spaniard, was arrest- ' ed yesterday evening by Patrolman John Hutchlns. On tho night of February 12 the Morteusen home was entered and Jowelry valued at about $100 was stolen. In addition-to the jewelry the ' thief secured $20 In money. No cluo ; to the burglary sas discovered until ; It was learned that a Spaniard was attempting to sell a watch nnd a set of earrings, the description of which tallied with thoso stolen from tho Mortensen homo. On this information Alvis was apprehended by Officer Hutchlns and still had in his possession posses-sion tho Jewelry Mvhlch he had attempted at-tempted to sell. The Jewelry taken from Alvis has been Identified as the articles stolon from the Mortensen home, but the Spaniard has not admitted his guilt, Tho police, however, bellevo that if the prisoner docs not confess to tho burglary sufficient evidence to secure his conviction of tho crime can be obtained. |
