Show CHARACTER BALL AT ACADEMY A novel and pretty scene was witnessed wit-nessed at tho Weber academy hall last evening by a largo number of vlsttorQ who occupied tho balcony. Tho occasion va3 tho charactor ball given by the Hophomoro class, and over 120 couples appeared In a varied array of costumes repreaontlng different differ-ent types and nationalities, many being be-ing very well defined. Among those which attracted special attention wore a band of Turks, frontloramon, western cowgirls, Indian squawB, three youns Indies as dolls, clowns and spveral gjpsy characters. The prizes, two three-pound boxos of confectionery, wore awarded to Miss Darker, who was In Indian costume, cos-tume, and Joseph Williams as a Turk, and the decision of the Judgos met with unanimous approval. There wore about 76 coupleB present pres-ent In addition to those In costumo. Tho efforts of the clasg to maKo tho affair one of pleasure was notod in tho decorations. A canopy of blue and white streamers overhung a border bor-der of rod, white and bluo bunting, tho complete longth of the hall, and miniature clowns of sevoral colors wore pasted on all tho walls. The orchostra of fourteen plecea was hidden by a bower of palm3 at tho north end of the hall and a pretty cozy-corner, docorated with tho '11 class pennants, found much favor. An appreciated feature was tho serving of delicious punch by tho Misses Josephine Vokor and Virginia Thomas, two dainty little ladles In Japanoso and Martha Washington costumes. cos-tumes.
