B Vance, two old and tried officers, fell into the basket. This action of the commissioners and the subsequent appointments in. the same department were not made public un,tll a late hour last night, when in tracing down rumors of polico changes the commissioners commis-sioners wore seei .personally by representatives rep-resentatives of the newspapers and asked to deny or' affirm tho stories which had leaked out through unofficial unoffi-cial sources. The fifth man to be added to the detective force s Fred Meissnor, who was at one time a patrolman in the local police department Later he went to Logan, where he resided about two years. On his return to this city he established a bakery, which he afterwards sold out. C. C. Brown, who has been acting as captain of police, and C. E. Layne and O. H Mohlman, who have been on the polico force for several years, have been appointed as sergeants. I Special Officers Pete Naylln and Thomas H. Blackburn were appointed as patrolmen to succeed Vance and Hadlock. Naylln has been a deputy sheriff, acting in this capacity under ex-Sheriff Barlow Wilson, and has been employed as a special on the police force. Blackburn has also been emplojed by the city as a special officer offi-cer for several months. The appointments ap-pointments will be effective today. Hadlock, tho retiring officer, has been connected with the police force for several years, and prior to his , appointment In the city's police service serv-ice he had done duty with the county as a deputy sheriff, and before which time ho was a patrolman.
