Show H INCREASE IN LA FOLLETTE'S STRENGTH." H Advices received at tho Progressive Republican Campaign H Committee headquarters recently show a remarkable increase in H 'La Pollctte's strength in "Washington. Oregon and "Wyoming. B "Washington and "Wyoming have been claimed by the adminis- m tration followers, with Oregon placed in the doubtful column. fl It has become known that one of the administration support- H ers in the far west, a man whose business it is to travel about the H country in tho interest of tho stand-pat tariff campaign, arrived in H "Washington a few days ago for the purpose of reporting on tho H- conditions he had found in several states. This man's report is H' to the effect that the three slates named will certainly cast their K votes in the national convention against President Taft and will HH' vote for Senator Ln Pollnttft. H: "While "Wyoming has been classed as a rock-ribbed adminls- H. tration state, certain to come to the support of the president, the Hj fact is that in that state there is a revolt of more serious propor- R tions than in any other state in the union. Prominent Republicans Hj arc openly declaring themselves in favor of La Pollette as against H; Taft, and several of the most prominent Democrats in the state have H pledged themselves to voto for the election of the "Wisconsin scna- K tor in the event that he obtains the Republican nomination. Their Hj reasons for so doing is to be found in the fact that Senator La Fol- H lettc, more than any other man now mentioned for the presidential H nomination in either part', has demonstrated that he understands H tho needs of the western country. Wyoming, like other western H states, awaits legislation at the hands of congress which will per- Hj mit the long dela3red development of these states. The voters aro Hf convinced that there has been a disposition in Washington to ignore Hj the demands from their section of the country. Senator La Fol- H; lette's views on conservation are thoroughly understood in "Wyom- B; ing, Colorado, California, "Washington, Oregon, Montana and Idaho, H and they are in sympathy with tho views entertained by the voters H in those states. H It is now regarded as certain that the speaking tour of Sena- MH1 tor La Follette will cement the favorable impression he has already created in these western states. These states had ample opportunity H to study President Taft during his tour of the country. Finding H- him lacking in the qualities which they demand in a candidate for H the presidency they turned to Senator La Follette, and nothing has H occurred in the political world to change that judgment. |
