Show ASSIGNMENT OE SAVILfFICERS WASHINGTON, March 9 Many important assignments of naval oftl-cers oftl-cers to duty wero announced by Secretary Sec-retary Meyer today. Captain John T. Newton is detached from the battleship Nebraska and ordered or-dered to command tho Portsmouth, N. H., navy yard. Captain De Witt Coff-man Coff-man Is detached from the command of tho battleship New Jersey and assigned assign-ed to duty as commandant of tho Bos ton navy yard. Captain Thomas S. Rogers is detached from command of the battleship New Hampshire and made commandant of the Norfolk navy yard in placo of Captain James J. Parker Captain Thomas Snowden is detached detach-ed from the inspection board and ordered or-dered to command the battleship South Carolina in place of Captain A. F Fletcher. Captain George R. Clark is transferred from the command of the battleship Iowa to the Minnesota, In place of Commander William R. Sims, who will go to the naval war college. Captain Edwin Lloyd is detached from the command "of the receiving ship Wabash and placed in command of the battleship Kansas, in placo of Captain Charles J. Badger. Captain James P. Parker, upon being be-ing relieved as captain of the Norfolk navy yard, will take command of tho battleship Nebraska in place of Captain Cap-tain Joseph N. Newton. Captain Joseph Jo-seph N. Chambers, who has been in charge of naval aeronautical w.ork, will become captain of tho battleship Louisiana, relieving Captain Albert W. Wilterhalder. Captain Frank W. Kellogg Kel-logg will take command of the battleship bat-tleship Maine, when she goes into commission; Commander Frederick L. Chapan, lato naval attach at London, Lon-don, will become captain of tho Missouri. Mis-souri. Commander W. W. Buchanan Is relieved re-lieved from duty as Inspector of tho second lighthouse district at Boston, and will command the Ohio. Captain , Robert F, Lopez is detached from tho I board of survey, San Francisco, and , will take command of tho armored cruiser Maryland in place of Captain ( James G. Gilmore and Commander C. C. Marsh, now on dutv in tho navy department, de-partment, will relievo Captain Clifford Clif-ford J. Boush, of the command of tho cruiser North Carolina. Captain PI. T. Mayo, now captain of tho navy yard at Maro Island, will succeed Admiral Ad-miral Hugo Osterhaus, as commandant of that yard, the fleet changes taking effect after the April practice. j |
