Burton and his wife of this city came from a theator. they werp detained by an otficer and questioned as to the kind of Bilver inonoy they wero cairying. Certain coins had "been passed at tho window of the ( showhouse that had a suspicious ring to them Mr. and Mrs Burton willingly exhibited ex-hibited the money they had with them and were much surprised that they should be detained by the officers. of-ficers. Mr Burtoristates that he has lived in Ogden a good many years and that he has never; defrauded any one out of a cent nnd he cannot understand under-stand why he should be even questioned. ques-tioned. "Everybody knows me," he said this morning, "and they know I am honest. hon-est. The detention of myself and wife at the station Sunday night was embarrassing, and we feel that an injustice has boen'done. The money we had with us that night was money mon-ey we worked for, and if any of it should have been found to be bogus, wo would not havo been accountable, because the silver was given us in exchange for a check handed us by our employer for, labor performed. We have no knowledge whatever or any counterfeiting-'that is claimed to be going on here, and we think there are no Italians in this city in that kind of business." |
