"It is simply a matter of excellence in vocal ability that will dcclac the personnel of the singers who will be selected to make the Now York trip. As I said In my first official announcement, announce-ment, no other consideration except vocal ability will count in the selection selec-tion of the singers. "To those who havo addressed letters let-ters to me in regard to the mnttcr I would say thnt they may not expect to receive replies by mall, but by attendance at-tendance at the choir rchearFals they will learn of the time and place for the testing of voices. On Monday night I shall hear the voices of 150 members, whose names havo been announced an-nounced In rehearsal, but the place has not been decided upon as vet, but will be announced Sunday afternoon and In Monday's paper. "The choir has a full attendance at all rehearsals and Is getting into first class shape for the May festival, and also for the rendition of 12 choruses which will he sung for ndditlonnl records rec-ords for the Columbia Phonograph company The new records and machine ma-chine are on thr wny here from New York now, nccompanled by the head man of the recording department and within the next two weeks the records will bo made. "I wlBh to say also that all who pany tho chelr to New York, I wish to have it understood that on account of the ardpousness of the trip, which will occupy at least 30 dnys, it has been deemed Inadvisable to take as singers girls under the ago of 17 years or women over tho age of 15 years. Neither will men be selected. who aro under the age of 19 years or over 50. Tho strain of the trip will be a hard one. maklns a severe test upon the physical strength of thoso included In "the chorus, and for this reason this age limit hns been set. :.I wish to saj also that all who come up to the requirements will be given a fair and impartial opportunity for selection, and those of superior vocal ability will be given preference, all other things being equal." |
