Show POLICE BELIEVE R0BBRV A PLOI SALT LAKE, April 28. Today the police are more firmly convinced than ever that the robbery at the Windsor hotel yesterday morning was a "frame up" and that "Dick" Hart, the night clerk, was either an accomplice or was made a tool of tho robbers While the amount taken has not been definitely def-initely determined, It was stated this morning that at least ?500 was lost Hart is still In jail and Captain of DetectlveB Beckstead said this morning morn-ing that he would ask for a complaint against him. Last night two arrests were made in connection with the case. A man giving the name of Jack Carpenter, another "meal ticket" prie fighter, who has been hanging about the notorious no-torious Motor club, was arrested by Captain Beckstead and Detective Jan-ney. Jan-ney. hut he was released from custody this morning as there was nothing shown against him. Arthur W. Mason, n hotel clerk, 28 years of age, was arrested by Sergeant Ser-geant Johnston and Patrolmal McMar-tin McMar-tin at 4:30 o'clock this morning and locked up on suspicion. The police believe ho knows something about the robbery. Captain Beckstead said today to-day that he obtained Information last evening to the effect that Alason had communicated with a woman and had told her to say if inquiry were made about his whereabouts on the night of the robbery, that he was in her company com-pany This she refused to do and the information was given to tho police, po-lice, resulting in the arrest of Mason. Proprietor Hyium Bnird of the Windsor hotel said today that he could not sav whether he believed it likely that Hart was in one the frame up. Baird said that Hart had seemed to be a square man and that naturally ho would consider him innocent until proved otherwise To hiin, Mr Baird said, the robbery .looked like a frame up, but that he could say very little about the matter as he was not about the place when the theft was committed. |
