Show ADOLF'S NEW ORDER j Adolf Hitler recently summoned to Berlin a con- clave of statesmen from European countries, largely ' conquered lands under German power, to celebrate the anniversary of what Mr. Hitler calls the fight against bolshevism. This meeting may have considered plans for a conference to be held later, when Hitler will try to bring about peace through the establishment of what he calls the new European order. This proposed new order in Europe will probably aim on its face to restore independence to the nations of continental Europe. It is supposed Hitler would offer them an apparent chance for development and prosperity. The terms would probably be so arranged that if these nations did not do just what Germany wanted, that country would have the right to march its troops into those countries again, and take control of their governments. Hitler is not likely to be satisfied with any European system that does not leave him master of the 15 or more countries he has conquered. Probably they would not be left in possession of industries which could be used to build up a powerful military force. Thus all Europe would be turned into a vast system sys-tem the true purpose of which would be to strengthen German might, and continue it as the greatest military mili-tary power of the world, outside the United States. Europe's economic system would be designed to fatten fat-ten Germany and make it rich and prosperous, while the rest of Europe dragged along in semi-poverty or destitution. No such solution would be considered satisfactory in the United States. It is extremely unlikely that England would consent to it. The British would figure that Germany, with its power thus augmented and fortified, would be merely getting ready for a new spring at them with its tiger claws. |
