Show Housing Problem Confronts Smithfield The Utah State Agricultural College housing program reached a critical state Wednesday, when Jack Croft, Dean of Men announced announc-ed that residents in and around Logan would have to cooperate with the college to the fullest, if the persent emergency is to be met. Students and defense workers are thronging into Logan each day in an attempt to find lodging quarters. Dean Croft stated that faculty members were " making a house to house survey of Logan requesting townspeople to take students stu-dents into their homes for the current school term. Defense workers, unable to find desired facilities in Ogden and Brigham City have occupied Logan apartments which have in the past ' taken care of Aggie students. As a result students are finding themselves them-selves at a loss to cope with the situation. As Dean Croft exclaimed, exclaim-ed, "residents will just have to cooperate, this is a war measure, even if only indirectly." The college at present is undertaking under-taking the task of listing housing faciliteis in Cache Valley towns, which are on the outskirts of Logan. Lo-gan. Smithfield residents who feel they could open their homes (provided (pro-vided the situation in Logan became be-came too critical) to college students stu-dents or defense workers, are requested re-quested to contact Harold H. Gutke. In the event that surrounding sur-rounding towns, such as Smith-field, Smith-field, Hyrum Richmond and Hyde Park were asked to take students, a bus would be provided to transfer trans-fer students back and forth to college. All this information may prove to be valuable and the college wants to be prepared to meet whatever crisis may arise. Suggestive Sugges-tive housing facilities consist of: board and room; room, furnished or unfurnished; apartments, furnished fur-nished or unfurnished; and houses furnished or unfurnished. - Mr. Gutke can be contacted by telephoning tele-phoning Smithfield 123. |
