Show Postmasters Paid for Stamps , The first postage stamps were issued is-sued by individual postmasters at their own expense in 1845. Postmasters Post-masters at Alexandria, Va., Brattle-boro, Brattle-boro, Vt, Lockport, N. Y., Mill-bury, Mill-bury, Mass., Baltimore, Md., Bos-cawen, Bos-cawen, N. H., Providence, R. I., St. Louis, Mo., New Haven, Conn., and New York, N. Y, supplied their patrons with stamps or stamped envelopes, en-velopes, which are now very valuable valu-able and highly prized by collectors. The postmaster stamps were superseded super-seded "ay the first government issue on July 1, 1847. |
