Show Hopper Injury Is Becoming Apparent ?A survey of grasshopper condition condi-tion in Utah. Juab, Davis and Weber We-ber 'counties shows hopper injury to be occuring to berry foliage, alfalfa, al-falfa, flowers l and . .. home-garden vegetables, ' Dr. G. F.. Knowlton. asociate entomologist of the U,tah. Agricultural experiment station, reports. re-ports. "Bait mixing stations have already al-ready been set up in Grand and Beaver counties and bait will be made available in most infested counties upon request wherever federal bait supplies are available," Dr. Knowlton continued. Another insect observed to be causing injury, the entomologist stated, was the aphid on flower gardens, which can be controlled by a spray of one teaspoonful of nicotine sulphate (40 percent) and 1 rounded tablespoonful of soap powder for each gallon of water. Dr. Knowlton cautioned that the aphids must be actually hit by this spray if satisfactory control if to be obtained. "Tomatoes and potatoes," Dr. Knowlton concluded, "which are injured by flea beetles should be promptly dusted with calcium arsenate ar-senate or cryolite." |
