Show Increase Pay Bill For Soldiers Now a Law president Roosevelt signed into law, Wednesday the bill recently passed by Congress which raises the monthly pay for the armed forces of the U. S. A. Besides giving giv-ing the men more money to spend for their personal likings or to send home to their relatives who are in need, it will no doubt make them feel that we appreciate a little more their efforts in trying . to make our safety more secure, j The schedule of pay is as follows: fol-lows: ' ' Old amounts are listed in parenthesis. paren-thesis. Privates and apprentice seamen in the U. S. armed forces: First class privates and second class seamen (36) 54; Corporals and first class seamen (54) 66; Sergeants Ser-geants and third class petty officers, offi-cers, (60) 78; Staff sergeants and second class petty officers, (72) 96; First or technical sergeants and first class petty officers, (84) 114; Master sergeants and chief petty officers . (126) 138;. Second lieutenants and ensigns, (125) 150; (A private now receives $21 monthly for his first four months, $30 thereafter, and $40 after one year in service.) Nurses' base pay would be raised $20 monthly, to $90, for those with less than three years of service, and $5 monthly, to $135, for those with more than nine years of service. As in the case of the army and the navy, the base pay is exclusive ex-clusive of additional pay for longevity. Rental Allowances Second lieutenants with dependents. depend-ents. (Similar provisions for naval officers of-ficers of corresponding rank.)
