Show Average Utah Crop Yields Shown by Survey The average yield of wheat for Utah in 1941 was 19.2 bushels per acre, the average yield of potatoes 214 bushels per acre, and the average av-erage yield of sugar beets 11.76 tons per acre. Those ore the averages computed comput-ed by the Utah state agricultural adjustment agency in its annual report to be released within the next few weeks. Sevier County had the highest average per acre yield of wheat with 29 bushels per acre. Davis had the highest yield of potatoes with 232 bushels per acre and Morgan County led in sugar beets with a yield of 13,36 tons per acre. These are averages for all farms. On participating farms, farms which were in the AAA Farm pro-! pro-! gram, the average per acre yield on wheat for the state was 19.4 bushels per acre and on potatoes it was 213 bushels .per acre. Of the 1,568,800 acre of cropland in ' the ctate a total of 1,157,368 areas was in 1941 AAA program, tabulations for the report show. Fifty-five per cent, or 640,675 per cent of this 1,157,368 acres, was devoted to non-depleting uses. Non-depleting Non-depleting uses is the growing of such crops as alfalfa, clovers and grasses. These tabulations thus show that yields are higher on the participating par-ticipating farms and at the same time more than half of the soil is being conserved and built up for future use, AAA officials pointed out. |
