Show Scribe Praises Activities Of Fire Chief By ROBERT CROOKSTON Well it's ' too bad the majority of us neglect to recognize and give credit and praise to anyone doing their work well. We wish to call attention to the perfect record of Fire Chief C. W. Rapp. He is such a quiet unassuming unas-suming man, never has much to say, is always on the look-out for any improvement in line with . the welfare of our city and county. He has the best equipment money mon-ey can buy, and his men are efficient ef-ficient in the use of all that fire-fighting fire-fighting aparatus, and on account of this efficiency he has saved our people vast sums in low insurance insur-ance rates. Insurance rates are based upon the fire hazard and Logan ranks the lowest of any city in the western states. Now that is something to be proud of. It's great satisfaction for both merchants and home owners alike to know that in case a fire does start it never gets time to do much damage because these red cars are on the job pronto. AH of the Logan firemen ate masters in the art of first aid, in fact they have qualified to teach, and they do teach first aid, not by lectures alone but demonstrate it to classes and the care and treatment of first, second and third degree burns, also broken bones, bleeding, drowning, shock, electrocution and please remember remem-ber this. Whenever anyone is hurt and you consider they are worth saving, always call the Logan fire men and be sure to explain the nature of the injuries. Never call a doctor to give first aid if the Logan firement are available. Chief Charley Rapp has them well equipped to give first aid and they bring their ambulance. ambu-lance. I call your attention to the perseverance of one Ray Crook-ston Crook-ston who revived a drowned man after one hour of artificial respr-ation. respr-ation. This was at Fish Haven, Bear Lake. When a doctor has a dead person, per-son, they usually turn it over to the morgue if they did work one hour giving artificial respiration, try and imagine what the bill would be. You may wonder why I'm so interested in first aid. I have known of worth-while people now pushing up daisies on account of ignorance and no first aid. One of them was my own nephew. A student at the local college. He was overcome by gas from a cook-stove. cook-stove. The firemen were not called. call-ed. According to a news report Chief Rapp intends to leave his position with the Logan fire department. de-partment. Well we hope he remains re-mains here with us. He is a pub- he spirited man and he knows the needs of this town. If he had been a member of the city council we would now have some of those defense projects here I betcha. |
