Show Open Sunday State Fair to It's a new fair and even a new fair grounds which will greet Utahns when the big gates at the State Fair grounds in Salt Lake City open on September 3, to run day and night through Sept. 9. From every section of the state, from the buildings of county and community fairs, thousands of entries have been pouring in this week to the spacious exhibition buildings of the new grounds to compete for thousands of dollars in prizes. Judging will begin September Sep-tember 3 and continue throughout the week. The new fair is the first full-size full-size production of Sheldon R. Brewster, secretary-manager, who took over, the reins three years ago, only to have his first fair cancelled because of the war, and the second presented under tortuous tortu-ous conditions, with the Army Air Corps occupying most of the grounds. Under difficulties, the fair was presented under tents, in the open and in whatever space that could be found. Despite these difficulties new attendance records were set. Every building is back in possession pos-session of the fair now, and each is in better condition than ever before, renovated by the army. Livestock barns all have concrete floors, there are shower and dressing dress-ing rooms for livestock exhibitors and handlers, a brand new theater for motion pictures and revues, a newly decorated manufacturers' building and countless,, other improvements im-provements and conveniences. It is a fair for all the state, and all the state has a part in its management. In addition to D. H. Thomas, of Salt Lake City, president presi-dent of the board, other directors are Pearl Hunsaker, Honeyville, vice presidnt; Burge McArthur, Mt. Pleasant; Clyde Ritchie, Charleston; Charl-eston; G. F. Stallings, Eden; M. N. Warnick, Pleasant Grove; R. T. Hilly ard, Smithfield; N. I Hinckley; H. G. Ivins, Provo; in addition to Lisle Bradford, Harold Bowman, and Maud Hardman, of Salt Lake City. ' In addition to the contests in all of the pre-war divisions of the fair, special events include a "Miss America" contest to find Utah's most beautiful girl to compete com-pete in the Atlantic City contest, 4-H club style revue, band and individual music contests, exhibition exhi-bition of milk goats, a brilliant midway, flower show and many novel features. New this year every visitor to the fair will be entitled to" free admission , to the big,-grandstand revue, given twice daily, a melange me-lange of circus vaudeville, musi-; musi-; cal revue and thrilling high acts presented j a select group of ' professional Hollywood stars. |
