Show HAZEN HiLLYARD NEW STAKE HEAD Smithfield Changes Made At Quarterly Conference W. Hazen Hillyard, 51, Smithfield postmaster for the past 10 years and prominent in civic affairs of that community, Sunday was sustained sus-tained as president of the Smith-field Smith-field stake, succeeding A. Reed Halverson, who rcently was appointed ap-pointed head of the New Zealand mission. The change was made at Smith-field Smith-field stake quarterly conference sessions Sunday by Georgeg F. Richards, member of the Council of Twelve. No other changes were made in the presidency, with Bennia J. Ravsten, prominent Clarkston agriculturalist ag-riculturalist and county farm labor la-bor supervisor, first counselor; Noble Chambers, director of 'the welfare department, second counselor; coun-selor; and Samuel H. Johnson, Utah Power and Light company employe, stake clerk. Two high council members were retired. President Hillyard. who was serving as senior member, and David G. Thomas, Smithfield, an instructor at the North Cache high school seminary, who Is moving to Murray. The stake high council now includes Kenneth Thompson, Clarkston; Clark-ston; Stanley F. Griffin, Newton; Andrew Heggie, Clarkston; George S. Noble, Amalga; Harley Monson, Frank Tidwell, George G. Nelson and Arlin R. Allred, Smithfield; and Ralph Jones, Newton. Active throughout his life in church work, Mr. Hillyard, who is a native of Smithfield, served from 1914 to 1916 in the Great Britain mission and then was appointed ap-pointed second counselor in the Smithfield First ward bishopric. Later he was ward bishop and for two years a member of the old Benson stake high council. Mr. Hillyard was sustained first clerk of the Smithfield stake when it was organized in 1938 and later was named senior member of the high council. For approximately 10 years Mr. Hillyard was a member of the Commercial National Bank staff in Smithfield, and then worked several years for the Amalgamated Supar iompany at Lewiston. Other changes made at the conference con-ference include, Miss Violt Petersen, Peter-sen, Smithfield, sustained as secretary se-cretary of the stake Relief Society, Socie-ty, succeeding Mrs. Edna Petty, Smithfield; Mrs. Gwen Noble, of Amalga, as assistant organist, and Mrs. Blanche Gunnell, Smithfield, member of the general board succeeding suc-ceeding Mrs. Mable J. Athay; Mrs. Maud Chambers sustained as counselor coun-selor in the Y.W.M.I.A., succeeding succeed-ing Mrs. Eunice Thomas. Mrs. Hillyard is the former ; Ruby NUson of Smithfield. They have five children: First Lieuten-l Lieuten-l ant Randal Hillyard, Camp McCoy, Mc-Coy, Wis; Seaman First Class Ferris E. Hillyard.
