To aid the victims of warfare be-, ing waged upon America and her island possessions, the American Red Cross has issued an appeal for a $50,000,000 'war fund, Chairman Norman H. Davis announced from the national headquarters, in Washington. Wash-ington. Mr. Davis urged men, women and children to give to this mercy fund through their local Red Cross Chapters. Chap-ters. These funds will support the Chapter's war work with the families, fami-lies, of men in the military services, as well as the broad relief program of the national Red Cross. President Roosevelt, who is president pres-ident of the American Red Cross, issued a proclamation urging all citizens to give to the Red Cross war fund. In launching the appeal, Chair-hnan Chair-hnan Davis said: "There are millions of our citizens citi-zens who desire today to .demonstrate .demon-strate their will to victory over the enemy. Not all can be in the armed forces, and not all can volunteer their services for humanitarian work, but all can volunteer their dollars to arm the Red Cross to be their representative at the- scene of battle and distress. "Today is the day to demonstrate our high morale, our unity, our determination de-termination not alone tb support our President and our fighting men at the front, but also to insure to our wounded, homeless and suffering suffer-ing fellow citizens in our Pacific Islands that ,we stand one hundred per cent ready to aid them through the Red Cross." |
