Show EDITORIAL RED CROSS EVER PROMINENT PROM-INENT .Every year the jwople of this Canyon are invited to contribute to one of the most helpfud organizations or-ganizations in the country, yet in many cases people are opposed oppos-ed to contributing a dollar to assist as-sist in the good work which is being carried on by the American Amer-ican Red Cross. Late in the afternoon af-ternoon of Wednesday March 16th, a cyclone swept across Southern Illinois and adjacent states carrying death and destruction de-struction in its path. Over nine hundred persons were killed, and three thousand injured; millions of dollars worth of property destroyed. de-stroyed. With wires down in every direction news of the catastrophe cat-astrophe was slow in reaching """the public, yet in less than 12 hours doctors nurses medicines clothing and food and everything every-thing that might be needed, were brought into the stricken cities and towns. Awful as it was it once more demonstrated man's humanity to man. These as well as the resources of the American people are epitomized in the American Red Cross which seized the opportunity a-gain a-gain to aid the wounded and distressed dis-tressed and were soon "Johnny-on-the-Spot." This splendid organization or-ganization whose one purpose is to relieve the needy and suffering suffer-ing immediately took charge of the situation and after making surveys and an appeal these people received sympathy, encouragement en-couragement and hoie that would never have come to them but for this wonderful organization organi-zation which so well reflects the character of the American people, peo-ple, the social relations existing among them, and the wonderful organizations of society by which help of all forms is so quickly, easily and generously ex tended to suffering humanity. In the American Red Cross the A-merican A-merican people have the fullest confidence because it embodies everything that is best in themselves. |
