Show That Railroad Rumor. We have had many inquires put to us during the past week coocerainz t!ir rumor that tbe Sarpete railroad was about to be extended to Manti. We have endeavored as far as possible to get at the truth and we firmly believe ttiat the report is utterly without foundation. found-ation. The reason that led us to sei the tale down as a false one is that many of the business men of the Sanpete valley who should be coguzanc of any such important move were tbe first to send to ns askiDg as to the truth cr falsi 'y of the report. To oar mind it appears obvious that the road ia question will receive no material improvements at present. iVe tMnk the rumor start d from the idle brain of some newspap r writer who only thought of the space he wished to fill and had no foundation intact oq wh'ch to base this vagary. Tbe Sanpete may be extended to Maoti some time but we think there ase fw chances for tai action in the near future. fu-ture. Nephi Courier. We believe, but are not certain, that the Repobtkb. was the first paper to give publicity to the rumor but it was not done to ' fill spdce': as our contemporary hints. It was published in good faith. We were told by a gentleman who stands hih in this community, that the company intended to extend the line to this city, that tin agent representing rep-resenting eastern capital had bt en in this vicinity making an examination examin-ation of the partly graded road-bed, with a . view of completing the grading and extending the line. The gentleman in question is in a position to know of these thiugs but did not state thut the road would be extended, merely that that was his understanding. We published pub-lished it as a rumor, as we thought well founded, but it seems we were mistaken and that the rumor was without foundation whatever. Th; road may not be built to this city for some time but it will be done sooner or tater and when it is, it will result in mutnal benefit to the people of this county and to the company. We will welcome the road when it does come but have no dispoition to hurry matters. Railroads Rail-roads are "built'' on paper at least several months befere they disturb mother earth with their presence aud the Sanpete extention is no except ion to the rule. |
