Show SCHOOL MEETING TONIGHT COME A meeting was held last night at the offices of Jorgensen and Cline.ot a few citizens and all the Milford school teachers. The meeting had been called by C. C. Sloan, member of the Beaver County School board, and C. T. Woodbury, president of the Home and School organization. Mr. Sloan acted as chairman and Ardath John-Bon John-Bon as secretary. Mr. Sloan told the meeting of the action of the school board in discharge dis-charge all teachers, to be effective March 18th. The notice received by one of the teachers, who was present pres-ent at the meeting, was exhibited and other teachers had received the same kind of notices. Along with the notice was a blank form for the teacher tea-cher to sign, signifying their willintr-ness willintr-ness to continue a a reduced salary i such reduction not being stated. Mr. Sloan said that the board in tended! to reluce salaries, commenc-, commenc-, v ing March 11th, which date is one week prior to the date 9et in the no-I no-I tlces sent out to the teachers. He said he was against any reduction, as the teachers had heen employed at stated prices anil hp thought that it was abreech of fn'th to ask the teachers to accept less. The proposition as it now exists. 1b that the present teachers' time is up March 18 according to the disms-sal disms-sal notices which have been set out. and if they do not consent to sign up for the remainder of the year at a reduced salary, new teachers will be employed and sent here to continue the work which would be five weeks, a it has been decided to close the schools on April 22. Several of the teacher made remarks, re-marks, stating their position. and several of the Home and School organization or-ganization spoke concerning salar-les. salar-les. substitutes etc. It was decided' to call a big meeting meet-ing for Wednesday night at the opera op-era house and invite everybody, to come. In the meantime the teachers will hold! a meeting and determine definitely as to what concessions, if any, they are willing to give. |
