Show CHEWING GUM TABOO AT HIGHLAND PARK DANCES The shimmy and the toddle are all right in Highland park, a fashionable and haughty suburb, but chewing gum is strictly taboo, and especially, at dances. In other words dancers may work their shoulders, hips and other parts of their anatomy, but not their jaws. This was the law laid down at the first community dance of the season. Each purchaser of a ticket was required re-quired to take this pledge: "I will maintain an upright position posi-tion in dancing. , "I will not chew gum. " I will not smoke. "I will not wear hat, wraps or sweater on the dancing floor."
