Show PROBLEMS IN ROAD BUILDING Officials of State Organizations and Bureau of Public Roads Discuss Dis-cuss Questions. (Prepared by the United States Department of Agriculture.) The committee on tests of the American Society of State Highway Officials met with the officials of the bureau of public roads of the United States Department of Agriculture, in Washington, June 28 and 27, to consider con-sider standardization of specifications and tests for road materials. The purpose of this meeting of representatives representa-tives from all sections of the country was not so much to lay down rigid rules as to harmonize the general practice. Standardization taking into account local conditions is being brought about by a series of meetings between officials from groups of states and engineers of the bureau. The present activity of highway officials of-ficials along this line is most encouraging encourag-ing for read building. A few years ago the general tendency was toward individuality In each state, without much opportunity! for exchange of Ideas and knowledge. Today the tendency ten-dency Is In the other direction, and a better solution should be reached when the problems are discussed at meetings of the best highway engineering engi-neering talent of the country. |
