Show MILFORDAUVE ELYRECORD Harry Ward, one of the live wires of the enterprising city of Milford, Beaver county, Utah, arrived in Ely Wednesday after having signed every road crossing between Ely and ? ford. He came over in a Ford truck, starting with a ton of signs, which were contributed by the business men of Milford. He placed a metal sign, 8x15 feet, in the Ely camping grounds, calling attention of tourists tour-ists to the Milford road, with all needful information. His log showed the distance between Ely and Milford to be 156 miles and states that it is all in good condition, and from the White Pine county line to Milford it is just about perfect for a dirt road. From Milford the tourist is routed to Beaver, 36 miles, where he connects con-nects with the Arrowhead trail. From Milford the distance to Salt Lake is 270 miles, making the distance from Ely to Salt Lake City via. Milford and Beaver 426 miles, a considerable portion of which is paved south of Salt Lake City. The business men of Milford have shown commendable enterprise in logging and signing the road to Ely. which will be of great benefit to the large number of tourists now passing over it and which will grow in volume vol-ume as the years pass by. During the hot months of summer it is expected much travel will be deflected from Beaver to Ely, as the route is much preferable during the summer months to that of the Arrowhead trail, which passes through a low country with long sandy stretches of road. Milford is particularly interested in-terested in deflecting travel through Ely because of the fact that it is not located on the Arrowhead trail. As the Record has frequently remarked, re-marked, Ely is most fortunately located lo-cated for securing auto travel. Tn fact, it is almost impossible to pass through Eastern Nevada without coming to Ely. The building and logging log-ging of the Grand Central highway and the signing of the Milford rr is conclusive evidence of the fact, and in time all of these roads will be greatly improved and eventually will become national or state highways, which is of far greater importance than the direct benefit in a business way which Ely now receives from tourists. Our neighbors to the east have been good to us during the present year, and it is now up to Ely fo reciprocate reci-procate by logging and signing the road from Ely to Las Vegas), which is said by those who have traveled it to be one of the very best in the state. At Las Vegas the eastbound travel over the Arrowhead trail could easily be deflected to Ely, because be-cause it Is not only a better road, but would also avoid the great heat of the desert section during the summer sum-mer months. From Ely these tourists could be routed east, and thus Ely would return the favors extended to her and without which she would have seen but little of the tourist travel during the present season. This is a matter which the Ely Commercial club should lose no further fur-ther time In undertaking. Ely Record. |
