Show PIONEER DAY WAS SUCCESS IN THIS CITY The Pioneer Day celebration began be-gan at sunrise Monday morning with the firing of guns. At 9:30 a parade formed at the I,. D. S. church and marched through Main street and up to the playground Floats representing 1847, Utah's Best Crop, The Sunflowers and the Beehive girls, with many other private pri-vate cars, and a hand cart company bringing up the rear, formed the parade. pa-rade. Miss Merle Pitchforth represented Utah. A feature of the program was a short talk on Pioneer days by Mrs. Harriet Fotheringham, who was a pioneer. Prayer J. B. Duncan. Song "Utah Queen of the West." congregation. Song Boy's chorus. Speech J. F. Tolton Vocal' Solo Miss Juanita Miller. Piano Solo Mrs. J. Blumberg. Talk Mrs Harriet Fotheringham. Beginning at 1:30 sports and r cer were held at the playground, for the children Races for all ages werr run and prizes given to winners A diving contest for money proved prov-ed very popular with the youthful divers. A ball game played by boys up to eleven years of age resulted iv core of 13 to 7 in favor of the North-end hoys. The prize for this was finger mitt and bat. A children's dance was held at 5 o'clock In the opera house and an old-time dance was given later. Both were well attended. |
