Either the tax payers nuisi vole a small levy of. say one mill (0 take the place of the five mill levy which cannot be levied', after this year, or the board must work out some economies to cover this deficit. The half-day plan would effect ef-fect a large saving. Two ques'ions present themselves to the board. Shall we ask the people to vote a tax or further economize? Secondly, it we decide to economise, which Is the best way to do it? We might try the half-day plan. We might narrow he high school cirruculum. We might ask teachers to handle. larger classes. Some tax payers are frank in complaining that we are conducting conduct-ing too many high schools and are suggesting that we discontinue some of them. The board is undecided just wrhat course to persue. They are nnxlou to do what the public, whose servants ser-vants they are wish them to do. J. Frank Day, Supt. Schools. |
