Show PLAINT FARMING Washington, Jan. 17, According, to data gathered by the Bureau of j the Census the 50 leading agricul-: turial counties of the United States j are distributed among the several I states as follows: California, 13; Ne wYork, 7; Illinois, Illi-nois, 5; Texas 4; South Carolina, 4; I Xorth Carolina, 3; Washington, 2; Wisconsin 2; and one each for Ari-j zona, Colorado, Connecticut, Maine. Minnesota, Mississippi, and Pennsylvania. Pennsyl-vania. The striking feautre of the report is that none of the leading agricultural agricul-tural counties obtain their rank by the production of what is known as standard crops. California counties which rank first, owe their lead to their great production of fruit. Aroos took county, Maine, which ranks third, owes its position to the production pro-duction of potatoes. Lancaster owes its position to tobacco. Yakima county, co-unty, Washington, is sixth because of its apple crhp. Tulare county, California, Cal-ifornia, is seventh because of its grapes. Sonoma county, California, is eighth because of its poultry. Whitman county, Washington, is ninth nin-th on the list, and it is the first county coun-ty on the list which owes its position posi-tion to the growing of cereals. Dane county, Wisconsin, is tenth because of its dairy products. a |
